Christ.

In all honesty, I’ve never been comfortable speaking the term ‘Christ’ as it is so bantered around my workplace in profanity, that it always seemed weird to hear myself refer to Jesus as ‘Christ’. Of course, I know He is; I have zero problem with the title, but just the word was too abused for me to want to use.  Until now that is.

Why the change?

Because ‘Christ’ means The Anointed One. That is powerful, and I’ve been meditating on Him as the Christ, asking for an unveiling of the knowledge and revelation of Him.

Paul in the New Testament spent time

Explaining [them] and [quoting passages] setting forth and proving that it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead, and saying, This Jesus, Whom I proclaim to you, is the Christ (the Messiah). – Acts 17:3

Jesus the Anointed One. As someone else puts it so succinctly:

Jesus as fully Man was dependent upon the anointing (Messiah and Christ mean “anointed one”) of the Holy Spirit.(1)

Jesus walked on earth as the Son of Man. Anointed, dependant on the Holy Spirit. How much we can learn from Him! He only did what He saw the Father do. We read of Him operating in words of knowledge, discernment,  prophecy etc. And if you reading this, believe and accept that Jesus is the Christ, you are a ‘little anointed one’ – christ-ian !!

He is also the Son of God. And now seated on the throne in His glory, in His splendour

Paul writes to the Ephesian folk:

May He grant you out of the rich treasury of His glory to be strengthened and reinforced with mighty power in the inner man by the [Holy] Spirit [Himself indwelling your innermost being and personality]. – Ephesians 3:16

May Christ through your faith [actually] dwell (settle down, abide, make His permanent home) in your hearts! May you be rooted deep in love and founded securely on love, – Ephesians 3:17

Christ dwells within us! The Anointed One is within us. His love, His strength in us, so that we can ‘be filled with the richest measure of the divine Presence, and become a body wholly filled and flooded with God Himself’!  I just love the Amplified version!!

That you may have the power and be strong to apprehend and grasp with all the saints [God’s devoted people, the experience of that love] what is the breadth and length and height and depth [of it]; [That you may really come] to know [practically, through experience for yourselves] the love of Christ, which far surpasses mere knowledge [without experience]; that you may be filled [through all your being] unto all the fullness of God [may have the richest measure of the divine Presence, and become a body wholly filled and flooded with God Himself]! – Ephesians 3:18-19

That’s what I want, to be wholly filled with God Himself. That the love, the compassion that flows from me, is His. That the words I speak are His. That looking into my eyes you see His love. That as I pray for you, you see and experience Him.

Christ within us. The Hope and Glory.
